So where are you people?

I put out an open invitation for free training, and have gotten very little response. There are more people reading this blog than I ever thought there would be, so why are we not training together? I have had exactly three people take me up on my offer. One was a local doctor that I already knew before I started the blog. The other two were folks I happened to be in the NRA instructor’s course with. They were already certified instructors, but still asked for some instruction AFTER they watched me shoot.

Unfortunately, I will be moving away from Colorado soon. Get it while you can…

National Review article by Charles C.W. Cooke.  “Contra the zeitgeist, “constitutional” and “unconstitutional” are not synonyms for “things I like” and “things I don’t like,” but statements of legal fact. http://www.nationalreview.com/node/357047/print

Warriors can get old, thugs seem to stay the same age. This is a tragedy and is why we carry guns. These pieces of trash have destroyed someone that they could never be: WWII Veteran beaten to death

Two great articles by Sarah Stillman of the NEW YORKER. It is necessary for a free people to jealously guard the powers that we grant the government: SWAT teams  Taken

New John Morse and Angela Giron ads fail to mention that gun control legislation had anything to do with their upcoming recall elections: KRDO Fact Check

Great Mike McDaniel article about why he carries a handgun. It turns out that many of his reasons are universal, at least for Americans. Let me know what you think: http://statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/i-carry-a-handgun-because/

New Colorado Gun Laws: unintended consequences edition. A planned gun buyback in Boulder had to be cancelled due to the implications of the new Colorado gun laws; hilarious. Here are your links:

It is not often that you see someone suing for a violation of their 3rd Amendment rights. The outcomes of this case are going to be precedential. The story is just disgusting. I would very likely be in serious trouble in this situation because I would assume that no police officer would behave in this manner. My most likely assumption would have been that these “police officers,” were actually criminals posing as the police, and I would have acted accordingly. Read it for yourself and tell me what you think: 3rd Amendment

In several recent conversations it has been reiterated to me that many people do not quite understand how their firearms work in relation to other people. Ballistics are vital information because they inform both our training and our reactions to a legitimate deadly force threat. You have to understand your weapon in order to use it effectively. I will be talking more about this in future posts. However, if you carry a gun for self-defense it is worth your time to read the seminal FBI study: Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness

Here is an excellent article about why the gun control debate is difficult: Waking the Dragon by Barry Snell at the Iowa State Daily

I stumbled across it at Stately McDaniel Manor, Mike McDaniel’s blog. Go check it out. His articles on the Trayvon Martin case are well worth the time that it will take to read them. His firearms articles are also extremely professional and well written. I have an affinity for teachers, especially teachers that are ex-police officers. Being certified by Chuck Taylor is just a bonus. (If you think Chuck Taylor is the shoe inventor you are not a gun person, if you get the chance to take one of his classes, do it.)

  1. Brent Bozell Says:

I am reporting this to the FBI

    • By all means, please do. I have several friends in the FBI that I have not seen in a long time. Perhaps if the Bureau opens an investigation based on your expert recommendation they could come out to visit for a while. They generally have better things to do through. Contribute to the debate in a meaningful way or get bent.

  2. Farmer JBL Says:

    Article worth reading

    • Farmer JBL,
This article is awesome and well worth reading. My favorite sentence: “And that’s when it hit me. Jason Everman had finally become a rock star.” Hell yeah he became a rock star…

    • I have seen this one. While I agree with their sentiment, using the government to mandate gun ownership is not OK. The government telling people that they must do something, is the same level of abuse as telling them that they cannot do something. I understand that the law in not being enforced and is a “statement”, but then why have it? There are much better ways to make the point. I have been through that part of Georgia, no one needs any encouragement to own guns.
I also think the Brady campaign should get bent and stay out of local affairs, but that is another story. Better that they spend their money on court fights that affect no one’s rights…
